Aluminium Vessel Designs

Designing an aluminium ferry or workboat to pass a set of rules is very different to engineering it to be reliable and cost effective which is why there are so many classed ferries in operation with cracking problems. Meeting the design rule minimums is not enough.
Choosing a bow style based only on styling can also lead to cracking. There are examples of ferries with narrow bows with cracking issues because the vessel speed, length and sea conditions were not suitable for narrow bow construction. This is particularly important for catamaran designs.
We understand that in addition to passing class society rules, the design must be cost effective to construct and maintain. This criteria is not covered in any rule book. Our extensive experience in hands on design for production and years of interaction with workshop staff at various shipyards gives us a rare and valuable insight into what makes a production friendly design that is also cost effective, strong and reliable.
